Poonam Makar introduces - An Odyssey in Stone

PUNE – 5th March, 2008: 'SOUL' by Poonam Makar is an exclusive boutique which houses a wide range of Asian artefacts and home décor products showcased its March collection “An Odyssey in Stone “ in a private viewing over wine and cheese. An Odyssey in Stone is a unique new assemblage of indoor and outdoor stone sculptures, crafted by master carves from the Orient.

The collection consists of stone sculptures sculpted by master sculptors from South East Asia. It includes Sculptures of Mythological Figures such as Buddha, Shiva, Surya, Quan-in, Krishna and Ganesha; Also integrates Guardians such as turtles and Chinese lions, fountains , waterfalls, bowls and pedestals, relief’s and much more hewn in stone from all over South East Asia including Java, Bali, Thailand and Burma. Lombak, Lava Stone, Limestone and Marble are the materials used in this range.

“The continent of Asia is vast and varied and its geology has provided artisans with a wide variety of stones, from extremely hard granite to soft soft sandstone. I bring this in at SOUL, this month in the form of stone sculptures. A masterpiece in this collection is a Six Feet Buddha Head Waterfall handcrafted in Java. It is a pleasure to the eye to see water flowing all over the face creating an ambience of serenity and calmness.” said .Mrs. Poonam Makar on the occasion.

About Poonam Makar
Poonam Makar, a philanthropist, wife of industrialist Mr. Vikram Makar and an intrinsic appreciator of art is also a psychologist. Once on a vacation in a village of Thailand, she was intrigued by the work of skilled artisans. Her endless fascination towards art and art forms made her bring a few pieces back home to share it with her friends following which she showcased her collection on various occasions in different cities. After a few larger and equally successful exhibitions Poonam decided to open a store named SOUL that would showcase a choice of handcrafted oriental artefacts. And hence began a journey – an exploration – which simply is not about bringing the object d’art but also from her mind and soul, about a passion that led to the creation of SOUL.
